Equine Veterinary Surgeon – Sports Medicine & Performance

West Sussex | Independent Equine Practice

My client is an established independent equine practice specialising in sports horse medicine, performance optimisation, and lameness investigation. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join their expanding team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an equine clinician who enjoys working up cases thoroughly and wants to be part of a practice focused on delivering high-quality diagnostics and treatment plans rather than high-volume ambulatory work.

The practice works with a diverse range of competition and performance horses, providing a structured and evidence-led approach to diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing performance management. Cases are often managed collaboratively with owners, riders, trainers, farriers, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload centred around sports horse medicine and lameness investigations, with opportunities to further develop your interests and expertise within the field.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Investigation and management of lameness cases
• Performance assessments and work-ups
• Diagnostic imaging including radiography and ultrasonography
• Development of treatment and rehabilitation plans
• Building strong client relationships with owners and trainers
• Working closely with allied professionals involved in horse performance and rehabilitation

The Candidate

My client is seeking an experienced equine veterinary surgeon who is comfortable working independently and enjoys taking ownership of their cases.

The ideal candidate will have:

• MRCVS registration
• A minimum of 3 years equine clinical experience
• Experience in lameness diagnosis and orthopaedics
• Confidence with diagnostic imaging
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills
• A proactive and professional approach
• A genuine interest in sports horse medicine and performance

The Practice

As an independent practice, decisions are made with patient care and clinical standards at the forefront. The team has developed a strong reputation within the equine industry for delivering detailed investigations, practical solutions, and exceptional client service.

The practice continues to invest in its people, equipment, and services, creating an environment where veterinary surgeons can continue to develop professionally whilst enjoying a rewarding and interesting caseload.

The Package

• Competitive salary dependent on experience
• Performance-related progression opportunities
• Company vehicle
• Exposure to high-level sport horse work
• Opportunities for UK and international travel
• High-quality equipment and diagnostic support
• Supportive independent working environment
• Long-term career development prospects

This role would suit an ambitious veterinary surgeon looking to establish themselves within a respected independent equine practice and further their career in sports medicine and lameness.
