Veterinary Surgeon – Stafford
Up to £85,000 | Four-Day Week | Advanced Facilities | In-House OOH
My client in Stafford is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its highly skilled and collaborative team.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a vet who wants to work to a genuinely high clinical standard, complete thorough investigations and develop their own interests with the support of experienced colleagues and advanced diagnostic facilities.
The practice has excellent staff retention, with a close-knit team of nine vets and approximately 40 team members who work collaboratively and regularly discuss cases.
The Practice
Vets are encouraged to perform their own work-ups and follow cases through, with access to an impressive range of equipment and expertise, including:
• CT scanner installation planned for 2026
• Endoscopy
• Advanced cardiology and ultrasound equipment
• Dental radiography
• Laparoscopic surgery
• Arthroscopy
• Orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgery
• Spinal surgery, which the team is looking to develop further
The veterinary team includes four Advanced Veterinary Practitioners, contributing to a varied and exciting caseload:
• Two in surgery, one with an orthopaedic bias and the other focused on soft-tissue surgery
• One in internal medicine
• One in cardiology
My client would particularly love to hear from a Veterinary Surgeon with an interest in ophthalmology, dentistry or diagnostic imaging. However, they are also open to strong, experienced GP vets and will encourage the successful candidate to develop their own clinical interests.
The Role
• Four-day working week
• Mix of consultations, surgery and duty shifts
• Dedicated operating days
• 15-minute consultations
• Protected time for administration and case management
• Proper lunch breaks
• Two long weekends within each six-week rota
• Earlier finish following an overnight duty
• Full private medical cover for full-time employees
Operating days begin at 0830, with procedures normally scheduled until approximately 3:15pm, followed by afternoon consultations.
Regular ward rounds and collaborative case discussions ensure that vets have access to support when managing more complex cases.
Salary
My client is looking for someone who is confident in their clinical abilities and comfortable joining the OOH rota.
The salary is negotiable, with up to £85,000 available for a certificate holder with relevant experience. The final package will depend on experience and qualifications.
Out-of-Hours Rota
The practice is the only provider in the town continuing to deliver its own emergency service, exclusively for its existing client base.
The rota includes approximately:
• 1:6 weekday nights
• 1:6 weekends
• Currently no other Saturdays in rota
• Duty nurse available overnight
• CCTV monitoring for hospitalised patients
My client is looking for someone who values continuity of care and enjoys managing a variety of cases including emergencies. This is an opportunity to provide that continuity within an exceptionally well-equipped practice, with the support of a highly capable team.
The Ideal Candidate
My client is looking for an experienced vet who:
• Enjoys working cases up thoroughly
• Values collaborative case discussion
• Wants access to advanced facilities
• Has an existing clinical interest or would like to develop one
• Is comfortable contributing to an in-house OOH rota
• Wants to become part of a settled team with excellent retention
If you are looking for genuine clinical freedom, advanced facilities and a team that takes pride in delivering an exceptionally high standard of care, I would love to speak with you.
