Float Veterinary Nurse – London
Wandsworth, Battersea & Balham | Multi-Site Role | Flexible Hours | Established Veterinary Group
Love nursing but don't want every day to look exactly the same?
My client is looking for an experienced and adaptable Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their London team in a Float Nurse position, providing clinical support across their primary care practices in Wandsworth, Battersea and Balham.
This is a varied, hands-on role for an RVN who enjoys getting stuck in, meeting different teams and being the person who can confidently step into a practice and make a difference.
You'll become a familiar face across the clinics rather than being permanently based at one site, providing additional nursing expertise wherever it's needed while remaining part of the same supportive wider veterinary group.
The Role
As a Float RVN, you'll work across three established London practices, supporting the clinical teams with day-to-day nursing, procedures, workflow and staff development.
Depending on where you're needed, your day could involve:
• Providing nursing cover across Wandsworth, Battersea and Balham
• Surgical and anaesthesia nursing
• Assisting vets with procedures and consultations
• Inpatient care and patient monitoring
• Nurse clinics and client education
• Supporting and training other members of the team
• Helping maintain efficient clinical workflow during busy periods
• Sharing your experience and practical knowledge across different sites
• Maintaining consistently high standards of patient and client care
More Variety, One Wider Team
A float position gives you something a little different from a traditional branch nursing role.
You'll get to work alongside different vets and nurses, experience the individual caseloads of each practice and build relationships with teams and clients across multiple locations – without losing the stability of belonging to one wider veterinary group.
My client also has a dedicated hospital supporting its primary care practices, providing the branch teams with access to a broader clinical network and more advanced facilities when cases require additional investigation or treatment.
Who We're Looking For
This role would suit an RVN who already has a good grounding in general practice nursing and is comfortable adapting quickly to different clinical environments.
You'll ideally be:
• RCVS registered
• Confident with everyday first-opinion nursing duties
• Comfortable working across multiple locations
• Practical and hands-on
• Friendly, approachable and a strong communicator
• Confident supporting and sharing knowledge with colleagues
• Organised and able to adapt when priorities change
• Proactive rather than waiting to be asked
• Passionate about maintaining excellent standards of patient care
Why Consider a Float Role?
If you enjoy variety, this role gives you plenty of it.
You'll have the opportunity to work with multiple clinical teams, broaden your experience and become an important source of support across the London practices.
It's particularly well suited to an RVN who enjoys the clinical side of nursing, likes helping others develop and wants additional responsibility without necessarily moving into a traditional Head Nurse or management position.
With flexible hours available, there's also scope to find a working pattern that suits both you and the practices.
If you're an experienced RVN who likes variety, enjoys being relied upon and would rather work across several friendly practices than be tied to the same four walls every day, this could be a brilliant next move.
