Registered Veterinary Nurse | Southampton | £25,000 to £38,000

Southampton, UK

Registered Veterinary Nurse | Southampton | £25,000 to £38,000

My independent client in Southampton is seeking a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its young, ambitious and supportive team on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking independent practice that combines first opinion care with an impressive range of advanced services. The team holds multiple certificates and works alongside visiting specialists, allowing the practice to manage a significant proportion of cases internally and minimise external referrals.

The practice is particularly interested in an RVN who enjoys surgical or medical nursing and would welcome applicants who already hold a relevant certificate. However, this is not essential, and full support will be provided to develop the successful candidate’s skills and interests.

The role

• Full time or part time permanent position
• Full time hours of 40 hours per week
• Salary from £25,000 to £38,000 depending on experience
• One in three Saturday mornings from 9am until 12pm
• Independent small animal practice
• Varied medical, surgical, dental and consulting responsibilities
• Advanced caseload managed internally
• Excellent opportunities to develop additional clinical skills
• Relocation support available
• Potential opportunity to buy into the practice for the right candidate

Clinical responsibilities

The successful candidate will use their full range of nursing skills, including:

• Supporting routine and advanced surgical procedures
• Monitoring anaesthesia and caring for patients throughout recovery
• Assisting with internal medicine investigations
• Supporting routine and advanced dental procedures
• Delivering nurse consultations
• Providing attentive inpatient care
• Preparing patients for diagnostic investigations and procedures
• Communicating clearly and compassionately with clients
• Maintaining accurate and detailed clinical records
• Working collaboratively with the wider veterinary team

The practice performs orthopaedic and advanced soft tissue procedures internally. Candidates with an interest in developing their surgical nursing skills will be fully supported and encouraged.

Facilities and clinical development

The practice is well equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical facilities, including a referral level ultrasound machine. Visiting specialists and certificate holders within the team provide opportunities to gain experience across a varied and advanced caseload.

The practice strongly supports continued professional development and is happy to help the successful candidate work towards further qualifications or develop a particular area of interest.

About you

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse listed on the RCVS register
• Ideally have at least two years of clinical experience
• Be confident supporting routine operations, consultations and dental procedures
• Have a genuine interest in providing excellent patient and client care
• Work effectively within a supportive and collaborative team
• Be enthusiastic about developing their clinical skills
• Communicate warmly and professionally with clients
• Be organised, proactive and dependable

A surgical or internal medicine nursing certificate would be highly desirable but is not essential.

Confident RVNs with less than one year of post qualification experience are also encouraged to apply. The team is happy to provide the training, mentorship and clinical support needed to develop the right candidate.

Benefits

• Private medical healthcare
• Competitive salary based on experience
• Flexible holiday allowance
• Generous CPD allowance
• Support for certificates and continued professional development
• Relocation package
• Full time and part time working options
• Opportunity to work alongside certificate holders and visiting specialists
• Potential option to buy into the practice for the right candidate
• Supportive independent working environment

This position would suit an RVN who wants to use their full skill set, develop their clinical interests and become an important part of a growing independent practice.
